Leveraging AI and voice commands to interact with the air conditioning system

Daikin’s needs

For many years, Daikin has provided a mobile application that allows customers to interact with their air conditioning systems. At a time where voice-activated devices like Google Home and Amazon Alexa started to gain popularity, Daikin sought to enhance the app's functionality.

To bring this vision to life, they partnered with Cloudway to integrate voice commands directly within the app, elevating the user experience for easier and more intuitive system control.

Integration of speech-to-text technology into the existing systems

For the case, Cloudway utilized available AI services, more specifically the speech-to-text technology. They seamlessly integrated these services into Daikin's existing IT systems.

Prior to the project, Daikin's air conditioning systems were controlled using technical machine commands available through a mobile app. These commands were translated into speech by Cloudway. Leveraging these pre-existing commands meant customers could adopt the new feature without modifying their systems.

By harnessing existing technologies, Cloudway achieved seamless integration within a short timeframe, enabling the rollout of voice commands to customers within just 6 months.

Used technologies

We used the following technologies to facilitate the integrations:

  • Amazon Web Services
  • Serverless (AWS Lambda, DynamoDB)
  • Infrastructure a Code
  • Amazon Alexa
  • Google Home

Controlling air conditioning systems with voice commands

This integration enabled Daikin’s customers to control their air conditioning systems using voice commands through Google Home or Amazon Alexa—an innovation that significantly improved ease of use and boosted customer satisfaction at the time.

As a pioneering feature for its era, this project underscored Daikin and Cloudway’s commitment to enhancing user experiences with emerging technologies.

At Cloudway we love a challenge: especially when it comes to improving existing systems through Smart Integrations. Wondering how we can optimize your services or systems?
